The LES Media Center is excited about being a part of your child's learning experience and we want to encourage your child to Read! Read! Read! this year. The purpose of all of our reading programs is to provide positive reinforcement for students who are actively engaged in reading both at school and at home.

Your support at home is one of the most important factors in developing a successful reader. We ask that you partner with us by encouraging your child to spend 15-20 minutes reading at home as often as possible. This time can be spent with a parent or family member reading to or with the child or the child reading independently.

1. Yearly Reading Incentive Program. Each year the media center hosts several school-wide reading challenges. Students log their reading minutes and reading activities into the Beanstack app. Everyone who completes a Beanstack Reading Challenge gets invited to a reading party and gets a FREE book along with other prizes! More information may be found on the Lilburn Elementary eClass home page about our reading challenges.

2. Monthly Reading Challenges. Each month, students may enter a holiday-themed reading contest. Information may be found on the Lilburn Elementary eClass home page about the contest.

3. Book Fair. Lilburn Elementary hosts Book Fairs each school year in February and May.

4. Author Visits. Each year Lilburn Elementary hosts an author. Students have the opportunity to ask questions about the author's books and the writing process.

5. Book Clubs. The Media Center hosts 3 book clubs. All book clubs discuss books and Skype with authors.

  • Readers Rally Team is open to 4th and 5th graders. Students meet weekly during lunch and after school on Wednesdays. In the spring, the readers rally team participates in the Gwinnett Readers Rally competition. Click here to go to the Readers Rally webpage.
  • Mock Caldecott club is open to 2nd and 3rd grade students. Students meet once a week from October to December to read, discuss, and evaluate the 15 picture books eligible for the Caldecott Award. They vote for their favorite book based on the rubric they receive. In January, they watch the Caldecott Award announcement Live to find out if their favorite book was a Caldecott winner.
  • Reading Ninja Podcast club is open to Kdg and 1st grade students. Students read and discuss a mixture of original student stories and classic stories like Jack and the Beanstalk. Click here to listen in on episodes of the Reading Ninja Podcast.

6. Watch It, Read It. Each Wednesday book trailers are shown on the morning LES news show. New and exciting books (as well as some older books) are shared with students. It is always exciting to see students request books featured on the Watch It, Read It segment.
